Club West Men’s Club

2008 Handbook & Information

Men’s Club

This handbook outlines all Men’s Club activities, games, and programs for 2008. A calendar of all events is provided separately and includes the format of play and pricing for 2008.

We encourage your guests to compete in the Club West Men’s Club events ONCE a year (outside of the Member Guest). Please be sure that your guest has a verifiable established handicap. Guests without handicaps shall fall to the mercy of the “Committee ”.

The Committee

For the 2008 Season, the committee shall consist of 6 volunteers, Matt Fleetwood, Frank Howard, John DeWitt, Barry Agard, Mark Weaver and Dan Jarchow.

Playing by the Rules of Golf

All U.S.G.A. Rules of Golf apply to Men’s Day events. We will waive the 14-club rule for Men’s Club events only (unless other wise stated in the local rules sheet). Please be aware that there is no “DESERT” rule for Club West Men’s Club events. If you lose a ball in the “DESERT”, you must proceed under Rule 27 – Lost Ball, except as noted below:

Course Markings and Local Rules

If markings listed below are faded or stakes are laying down or missing, please play these areas as described below:

  • Hole 3: Waste area short of the green is marked (red) lateral hazard.

  • Hole 5: Right side of fairway is generally marked lateral (red stakes, red painted line) drop at the point of entry.

  • Hole 7: Left side of fairway is generally marked lateral (red stakes, red painted line) drop at the point of entry.

  • Hole 8: Right side of fairway at driving range is marked OB (white stakes) until you reach the dam at the end of the driving range, which is marked lateral (red stakes, red pointed line) through the cart path cross over. Just after the ditch crossing, in this case defined by the railroad ties, the lateral (red) transitions to a hazard (yellow stakes). At the yellow stakes drop as far back as you want at point of entry. Free relief is NOT given for railroad ties or cables. Play it as it is or continue under unplayable lie rules.

  • Hole 9: Right side is OB as marked with white stakes. Left side is marked (red) lateral hazard.

  • Hole 12: The ditch crossing is to be considered hazard (as if yellow staked).

  • Hole 14: Left side of the cart path is (red) lateral hazard.

  • Hole 15: Rock drainage area left of green is (red) lateral hazard

  • Hole 16: Rock drainage area is marked as hazard (yellow stakes) and left side of second half of the fairway is lateral hazard (red stakes) all other areas are desert.

  • Hole 17: Left side is lateral hazard as marked with red line. Drop at point of entry or drop zone near cart path behind the front green regardless of which green is being played. Right side: Options (1) find it and hit it or play unplayable

  • Hole 18: The lake is lateral hazard except if the crossing point is over the bunker in front of the green, the drop area is in the grass, outside the bunker, along the same line as the point of entry.

  • Desert: Any desert area not in an area describe otherwise above. Options are:

    • Play it as it lies

    • Play under the rules of unplayable lie if the ball is found

    • If not found, re-Tee or play provisional which was already hit from the tee

    • Hole 17 only, use drop zone described above

Putting Out

NO GIMMES. If you do pick-up for some reason then you are no longer eligible for the individual gross and net games and you take an X for the team game being played (don’t hang your partner out to dry!). You still must record a score for handicap purposes according to the procedures set forth in the equitable stroke control:

Course Handicap ESC Maximum

9 or less Double Bogey

10 – 19 7

20 – 29 8

30 – 39 9

40 and above 10

Handicap

The Men’s Club has purchased new handicap software. 2007 scores have been back loaded. New tournament scores for 2008 and beyond will be maintained in this software by the committee. Please continue to post your own scores in the AGA computer. For each tournament, the handicap used will be the lowest of the Men’s Club Handicap and the AGA handicap.

Men’s Club Handicaps will be calculated based on how many events you’ve played in as follows.

Events Played / Scores Calculated

1/1 2/1 3/1 4/1 5/2 6/2 7/3 8/4

Events and Formats

The Men’s Club schedule will explain the events dates and formats for 2008. Please be advised that dates and starting times are subject to change. The Men’s Club Committee will do their best to advise Club members of changes.

Please keep in mind -- PARTICIPANTS WILL ALWAYS POST A SCORE FOR HANDICAP PURPOSES NO MATTER WHAT THE COMPETITION FORMAT. (The only exceptions are Shamble and Scramble formats)

Course Set – Up / Tee Markers

In an attempt to make being a member of the Men’s Club here at Club West more enjoyable the Men’s Club may use one of any of the 10 different courses defined in previous years by the course professional. Here is a sampling of how the courses might vary:

  • Par can vary from 72 to 67

  • Yardage can vary from 7036 to 5442

  • Slope can vary from 129 to 112

  • Course rating can vary from 72.1 to 65.1

Men’s Club participants play from the BLUE tees (unless specified differently in the supplementary rules sheet at which point play shall be from the “NATURAL ROCK” tees.)

Entry Fees

In 2008 Club West Men’s Club will have three different levels of entry fees.

  1. Annual members whom have pre-paid for green fees.

  2. Annual “cart only” members

  3. Participants that have paid the 2008 Men’s Club dues

Entry Fees are inclusive of Green Fee & Cart & Prize Fund

Optional: Gross & Net Skins / Closest to the Pin

Optional: Super Skins

Optional: Hole in One Fund

Your entry fee is to be paid to the golf course.

Optional Pins and Skins are to be paid in cash to the Men’s Club Starter (each week)

Optional Super Skins are to be paid in cash to the Men’s Club Starter (each week)

Optional: Hole in One Fund to be paid to the Men’s Club Starter (one time until hole in one)

Super Skins: Each tournament, super skin money will be collected to create a growing pot ($1 Gross, $1 Net). You must enter the week you are playing to be eligible regardless of your participation in past events. The super skin hole will be selected at random in the presence of the tournament participants AFTER the tournament is completed. Every hole is eligible with the exception of par 3’s. Winner of a skin on that hole the day the hole is selected wins the pot collected to date (gross and net separate pots).

Tiebreakers and Gift Certificates

All awards, except for optional Skins and Pins will be paid out in Golf Shop gift certificates. Certificates will be handed after each event. If you are not able to stay for the announcements, the golf shop will hold your certificate at the counter.

Ties for Men’s Club Events will be broken as recommended by the United States Golf Association. The tie breaker procedure is as follows:

  1. Compare the BACK SIDE (holes 10 – 18) Total

  2. Compare the LAST 6 holes

  3. Compare the LAST 3 holes

  4. Compare the 18th hole.

  5. Compare the #1 Handicap Hole

Hint: Always play better on holes 10 – 18 as they fall on the scorecard (it is immaterial what hole you start on).

In the net division strokes are taken into account as the fall on the scorecard for tie-breaking purposes.
