2008
Handbook & Information
Men’s
Club
This
handbook outlines all Men’s Club activities, games, and
programs for 2008. A calendar of all events is provided separately
and includes the format of play and pricing for 2008.
We
encourage your guests to compete in the Club West Men’s
Club events ONCE a year (outside of the Member Guest). Please
be sure that your guest has a verifiable
established handicap.
Guests without handicaps shall fall to the mercy of the “Committee
”.
The
Committee
For
the 2008 Season, the committee shall consist of 6 volunteers,
Matt Fleetwood, Frank Howard, John DeWitt, Barry Agard, Mark
Weaver and Dan Jarchow.
Playing
by the Rules of Golf
All
U.S.G.A. Rules of Golf apply to Men’s Day events. We will
waive the 14-club rule for Men’s Club events only (unless
other wise stated in the local rules sheet).
Please
be aware that there is no “DESERT” rule for Club
West Men’s Club events. If
you lose a ball in the “DESERT”,
you must proceed under Rule 27 – Lost Ball, except as
noted below:
Course
Markings and Local Rules
If
markings listed below are faded or stakes are laying down or
missing, please play these areas as described below:

Hole
3: Waste area short of the green is marked (red) lateral
hazard.

Hole
5: Right side of fairway is generally marked lateral (red
stakes, red painted line) drop at the point of entry.
-
Hole
7: Left side of fairway is generally marked lateral (red
stakes, red painted line) drop at the point of entry.
-
Hole
8: Right side of fairway at driving range is marked OB (white
stakes) until you reach the dam at the end of the driving
range, which is marked lateral (red stakes, red pointed
line) through the cart path cross over. Just after the ditch
crossing, in this case defined by the railroad ties, the
lateral (red) transitions to a hazard (yellow stakes). At
the yellow stakes drop as far back as you want at point
of entry. Free relief is NOT given for railroad ties
or cables. Play it as it is or continue under unplayable
lie rules.

9: Right side is OB as marked with white stakes. Left side
is marked (red) lateral hazard.

Hole
12: The ditch crossing is to be considered hazard (as if
yellow staked).

14: Left side of the cart path is (red) lateral hazard.

15: Rock drainage area left of green is (red) lateral hazard

Hole
16: Rock drainage area is marked as hazard (yellow stakes)
and left side of second half of the fairway is lateral hazard
(red stakes) all other areas are desert.

Hole
17: Left side is lateral hazard as marked with red
line. Drop at point of entry or drop zone near cart path
behind the front green regardless of which green is being
played. Right side: Options (1) find it and hit it
or play unplayable

Hole
18: The lake is lateral hazard except if the crossing point
is over the bunker in front of the green, the drop area
is in the grass, outside the bunker, along the same line
as the point of entry.

Putting
Out
NO
GIMMES.
If you do pick-up for some reason then you are no longer eligible
for the individual gross and net games and you take an X for
the team game being played (don’t hang your partner out
to dry!). You still must record a score for handicap purposes
according to the procedures set forth in the equitable stroke

Handicap
The
Men’s Club has purchased new handicap software. 2007 scores
have been back loaded. New tournament scores for 2008 and beyond
will be maintained in this software by the committee. Please
continue to post your own scores in the AGA computer. For each
tournament, the handicap used will be the lowest of the
Men’s Club Handicap and the AGA handicap.
Men’s
Club Handicaps will be calculated based on how many events you’ve
played in as follows.

and Formats
The
Men’s Club schedule will explain the events dates and
formats for 2008. Please be advised that dates
and starting times are subject to change.
The Men’s Club Committee will do their best to advise
Club members of changes.
Please
keep in mind -- PARTICIPANTS
WILL ALWAYS POST A SCORE FOR HANDICAP PURPOSES NO MATTER WHAT
THE COMPETITION FORMAT. (The only exceptions are Shamble and
Scramble formats)
Course
Set – Up / Tee Markers
In
an attempt to make being a member of the Men’s Club here
at Club West more enjoyable the Men’s Club may use one
of any of the 10 different courses defined in previous years
by the course professional. Here is a sampling of how the courses
might vary:

Men’s
Club participants play from the BLUE tees (unless specified
differently in the supplementary rules sheet at which point
play shall be from the “NATURAL ROCK” tees.)

2008 Club West Men’s Club will have three different levels
of entry fees.

Super
Skins: Each tournament, super skin money will be collected to
create a growing pot ($1 Gross, $1 Net). You must enter the
week you are playing to be eligible regardless of your participation
in past events. The super skin hole will be selected at random
in the presence of the tournament participants AFTER the tournament
is completed. Every hole is eligible with the exception of par
3’s. Winner of a skin on that hole the day the hole is
selected wins the pot collected to date (gross and net separate
pots).
Tiebreakers
and Gift Certificates
All
awards, except for optional Skins and Pins will be paid out
in Golf Shop gift certificates. Certificates will be handed
after each event. If you are not able to stay for the announcements,
the golf shop will hold your certificate at the counter.
Ties
for Men’s Club Events will be broken as recommended by
the United States Golf Association.
The tie breaker procedure is as follows:

Hint:
Always play better on holes 10 – 18 as they fall on the
scorecard (it is immaterial what hole you start on).
In
the net division strokes are taken into account as the fall
on the scorecard for tie-breaking purposes.
Quarterly
Point System (and Ryder Cup Points)
For
each Men’s Club event points are awarded for participation,
and places first through fourth (team event points are split).
The point’s breakdown is as follows:

Single Membership to Club West Golf
Club.
